Introduction to FIT
The Punjab Institute of Computer
Science (PICS) was established in 1993 with the aim to produce
highly skilled people in the field of Information Technology and
Computer Science. In 2002, the institute became the Faculty of
Information Technology (FIT), University of Central Punjab,
after attaining the degree awarding status.
The FIT is true to our mission statement “To provide quality
education to the youth of our nation in a stimulating and
conducive learning atmosphere by providing them with the
intellectual and technological tools necessary to meet the
challenges of the future”.
We also share the same passion and objectives of our
organization which is to serve the nation by producing
outstanding graduates through modern teaching methodologies,
training and research activities. Our faculty has been growing
while maintaining high standards of teaching without
compromising the quality of education.
The curricula of the
programs are reviewed regularly (meeting minimum requirement of
Higher Education Commission) by our competent faculty members in
order to keep pace with new developments in the field of IT and
to ensure that our students always stay at the top of their
profession. In this regards a number of specializations have
been offered in a broad range of newly emerged disciplines in
computer science and information technology. It is also focused
to build a management capacity with a practical orientation
required to link up the education of computer science with the
practical problems of industry. During the studies, students
will be trained to the highest professional standards which in
turn will enhance their employment opportunities. Following are
the programs which are currently offered by our faculty:
- Ph.D (Computer Science)
- M.Phil (Computer Science)
- MS (Computer Science)
- MCS (Master of Computer Science)
- BS (Computer Science)
The faculty has strong and highly qualified
computer scientists in the diverse fields of computer science from the
renowned universities of USA, Australia, Japan, UK, Sweden, Switzerland,
Korea and China. The strength of the faculty is its diverse areas of
research to which it has made a remarkable contribution. Our faculty
members are dedicated to develop professionals with theoretical and
practical skills in the field of computer science. The highly trained,
professional and passionate faculty members are devoted to guide and
support the students during the most valuable years of their life. The
faculty has produced excellent IT developers and computer scientist who
are serving in renowned national and international organizations or
pursuing their higher studies in the well-reputed universities.
We believe that well-equipped laboratories and appropriate research
facilities play a key role in the development of IT professionals. We
have project-based and general laboratories to facilitate basic training
of the students in computational and experimental skills. For the
research and development activities, faculty members and students have
the full support of the Center for Research in Computer Science. While
on campus, the students will not only enjoy these facilities but also
find Wi-Fi connectivity and research & development facilities maintained
by a well-trained and dedicated technical staff engaged in delivering
high quality technical services to the students.
Centre for Research in Computer Science
The purpose of the Centre for Research in Computer Science (CRCS) is to
ensure the vitality of the human resource base of UCP and reinforce its
diversity. The university recognizes and supports outstanding graduates
in the relevant field who are pursuing research-based master or doctoral
degrees. UCP students are expected to become knowledge experts who can
contribute significantly to research, teaching and innovations in
science, engineering and technology. These individuals will be trained
to maintain and advance national technological infrastructure as well as
contributing to the economic well-being of society at large. Research at
UCP is designed to provide opportunities for advanced education that
prepares students for a broad range of disciplinary and
cross-disciplinary careers. Six research groups have been formed at the
centre to initiate a focused research.
- Software Engineering
- Formal Methods
- Intelligent Systems
- Network Technologies
- Computer Vision
- Databases
It is mentioned that various research
articles of our faculty and students have been published in
well-renowned international journals and conferences with the financial
and academic support of the research centre. |
