Seminar on Computer Forensics

A seminar on "What is Computer Forensics?" was held at the Pearl Continental Hotel, Lahore. This event was organized by Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman of the Memorial Society, Jang Group of Newspaper, where Professor Ajmal Hussain, Associate Dean Faculty of IT at UCP, expressed his views on this subject in his welcome address.
He announced that the University of Central Punjab will be starting a four-year program in Computer Forensics (CF) from October, 2008. He said that Pakistan was making progress in the use of computer technology and more and more institutions are utilizing it. Therefore, at the same time it is necessary to take effective measures to secure and control the systems to avoid cyber crimes which could cause a huge loss to the state, banking sector and other individuals.
Professor Ajmal said that the FIA and Intelligence Bureau (IB) were working to counter cyber crimes but there was a need for specialists who could ensure security and trace out heinous crimes and frauds. He added that Computer Forensics has a great career scope and is a highly-paid field. While giving a presentation on "What is Computer Forensics?" he said that the conversion of technologies on computer was a blessing in many spheres of life but it had also a number of pitfalls especially related to security. Computer Forensics, he said, was an art and a science which emerged after the micro-computer revolution and infringement of law enforcing agencies worldwide.
Dr. Shahid Mehmood, Associate Dean of Management Studies, UCP, in his speech emphasized the need to act upon the three-point agenda to bring changes in the field of CF. The three point agenda, being: to create good connectivity between the school and society; second, to think ahead to cater the challenges of cyber crime; and third, to shape the minds of pupils for their bright future. He said that the University of Central Punjab had taken steps to educate the new generation about cyber crimes and CF by announcing the launch of this four-year program.
Other speakers who expressed their views at the Seminar included IT Secretary Govt. of the Punjab Shumail Ahmad Khawaja, Vice President FOZANS Dr. Fauzia Rehman; Head of IT, WAPDA Attique Ahmad Ch, IS Security Consultant Al Rajai, Bank Saudi Arabia Muhammad Gulzar, Former Deputy Commissioner Income Tax Syed Anwar-ul-Haq Jilani and Vice president Askari Bank Waqar Ahmad.
