Marketing helps the business world go round

The heart of your business success lies in its marketing. Most aspects of your business depend on successful marketing. The overall marketing umbrella covers advertising, public relations, promotions and sales. Marketing is a process by which a product or service is introduced and promoted to potential customers. Without marketing, your business may offer the best products or services in your industry, but none of your potential customers would know about it. Without marketing, sales may crash and companies may have to close.

Mission of DoM is to provide polished, educated and professionally trained graduates in the area of marketing who can add to the value of firm fairly quickly.  These personnel have the capabilities and skills to perform at an optimum level in various marketing functions in this competitive environment, may it be sales, marketing strategy, managing brands, marketing research, or  market budgeting.

Once company, product and service reaches on the radar screen of your potential customers, chances of purchasing increase. This is the point where new buyers begin to spread a good word-of-mouth, telling friends and family about this amazing new product they discovered. With the spread of this word, sales start growing. After this, the success of a company depends on a solid reputation. Marketing makes full effort to build brand recognition which the market recalls with a company name. As the reputation of the company grows, the business expands. The reputation of the business is built through active participation in community programs, effective communication and quality products or services, which are developed and supported by marketing efforts. The course of Brand Management offered in the DoM of UCP realizes this objective.

Another contribution of marketing in the society is to facilitate the healthy competition that allows small or new business to enter and expand. At the same time, a Marketing Manager must know how much money is needed to spend on various marketing activities of the firm.  As such he should know how to prepare a marketing budget. In its first year, a company might spend around 50% of its sales on marketing and advertising activities and in second year the marketing budget may be 30% or more of the annual sales. A marketing program gives the company the best chance of a healthy mix of different forms of advertising, such as website development, public relations, print and broadcast advertising, design and printing for all print materials, trade shows and other special events. This knowledge is imparted to the marketing students at DoM through the courses of Marketing Strategy and Advertising and Promotion.

Through a smart curriculum, our students learn to understand the intricacies of the global marketplace. They develop strong leadership skills and a team-oriented work ethic. Most important, our management and marketing programs foster an entrepreneurial mindset which aims at identifying and capturing business opportunities. The prospective employers are welcome to meet our students on-campus and discover their potential to serve and enhance their business growth.


The DoM has ten full time faculty members.  They are highly qualified having PhD and MS degrees from abroad and Pakistan.  Some of them have rich teaching and professional (marketing) experience. To blend theory with practice of marketing, sometimes experienced faculty is hired from the professional field on visiting basis.

Courses Offered

The courses in the Division are offered on the basis of survey of market needs.  Whenever a course is redundant, it is deleted from the roadmap and new course is inducted. Currently following courses are being offered in the DoM to BBA and MBA programs.

While some companies may offer some nice packages, your first job ordinarily will not be in the executive cadre. However, you may discover that selling is a fertile ground in terms of immediate employment.  You should not underestimate it. Companies are putting sales people in places of responsibility, so make the most of every opportunity. Remember working in a discipline is more important than mere classroom study to confirm your career aspirations. One very good opportunity within sales jobs is B2B selling. It is also possible that your first job is analyzing marketing data to identify trends, forecast sales and increase market share.

Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Khan
Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Khan is a Professor and Head of the Marketing Division in the UCP Business School. He did his PhD in Business Education under split program from School of Business, Indiana University, Bloomington, USA and Punjab University, Pakistan. He did his Master of Business Education (MBE) degree with Gold Medal from the Punjab University.  He also did his M.A in Economics from the same university. Dr. Zulfiqar has about forty years of university teaching and research experience. Before joining University of Central Punjab, he has been the Chairman of the Department of Business Education and Professor at University of the Punjab. His teaching and research interests are in Strategic Marketing and Consumer Behavior.

Dr. Muhammad Asif Khan
Dr. Muhammad Asif Khan is a PhD in Marketing from France. He did his Master of Research in Management from IAE, Graduate School of Business, France. He holds MBA in Marketing and MSc. in Statistics degree from Punjab University. His area of interests are consumer behavior, marketing and cross-cultural research, brand management and international marketing. He lectured in Euromed Management School, Marseille, France for more than a year. His research publications are in international journals. He has attended many international conferences and workshops.

Waseem Irshad
Waseem Irshad is research oriented academic professional, his research contribution is 1 in journal of repute in addition to 3 international conference presentations. In an entrepreneurial capacity he organized numerous conferences, symposiums and trainings for academia and industry. He is actively functioning role as reviewer of Journal of Service Marketing (JSM). He has also worked under august supervision of IFC/ World Bank certified master trainer for middle east north Africa (MENA) region for more than 2 years in areas including academic excellence, communication skills, effective presentation skills, personality development, 720o analysis of organization, ethics values and motivation, negotiation skills, leadership and teamwork. He is MBA in Marketing from UCP. His main areas of interest are market intelligence, STP modeling, communication channel preference, Islamic marketing.

Anum Huma
Anum Huma is currently working in UCP as a Lecturer in Faculty of Management Studies. She recently joined UCP to demonstrating her expertise in applications of Marketing in professional area. She completed her MSC in Marketing Management (Full Scholarship) from University of Westminster, London and was rewarded with merit distinction. Awarded the certificate from Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), she gained a lot of exposure while working for multinational brand. She completed her BBA (specialization—Marketing) with a CGPA of 3.86, and stayed in the dean’s list of honour at PCBA (UCP). Before joining UCP, she was in the adjunct faculty at Lahore School of Economics (LSE). A dedicated individual with a dynamic teaching style and a new vision; ‘teaching is not about learning by the book, but it is the implementation of practical knowledge and skills that a profession undermines’

Awais Qadeer
Awais Qadeer, Assistant Professor, has an MBA degree from Salisbury University in Maryland, USA.  He has approximately 12 years corporate experience working in the US and Canada. Predominantly, his experience is in the banking sector, starting with First Union National Bank in the US and ending at Royal Bank of Canada before moving back to Pakistan. He also has experience in sales & marketing, working for manufacturing companies in Pakistan and the US. He has been teaching at UCP since fall 2011. Marketing being his area of interest, he has been teaching specialization and core marketing courses at the undergraduate (BBA Honors) and graduate (MBA) levels. Some of the marketing courses he has taught so far include: Global Marketing; Strategic Marketing; and Consumer Behavior.

Khurram Hamid
Khurram Hamid is an MBA from Asian Institute of Technology,(AIT) Thailand. He is currently working as an Assistant Professor with UCP Business School for the last 4 years. Prior to that he has acquired ten years of commercial and investment banking experience with an emphasis on marketing and developing strategies for financial products and services. Also well conversant and fluent in Pakistan capital and equity markets, with an emphasis on operations and with a keen research based interest in stock markets and mutual funds. Currently involved in academic research, teaching Undergraduate & Graduate courses. Branding is in particular an area of increasing research interest as well. Additionally, his previous professional experience and skills assisted in enhancing his contemporary teaching techniques with extensive practical knowledge of the field in the business context of Pakistan.Mr K.Hamid is also a certified trainer for professional development and has executed extensive training modules in the corporate sector, particularly Investment banking.
