Dr. Muhammad Shahzad Iqbal did his PhD in Molecular Biology (securing Indigenous HEC Fellowship for Ph.D.) from Center of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB), University of the Punjab, Lahore in 2021, after completing his M.Phil. (Molecular Biology) from the same institute and BS (Hons) in Biochemistry from The University of Lahore, Lahore, Pakistan. He attended The University of Queensland, Australia (IRSIP Fellowship) for six months where he worked on Sugarcane genomics in 2017-2018. He was selected as a member PhD Delegation (2018) for a study visit to Scotland by British Council and HEC (Pakistan) under Capacity Strengthening Program. Dr. Shahzad has served as Sr. Lecturer in UOL prior to joining Biotechnology Dept. Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Central Punjab, Lahore Pakistan. He has also served a Biotech company as “Application Specialist for NGS”.

Dr. Shahzad’s primary research interest is to reveal a better understanding towards Plant-microbe interactions at molecular level. He has the skills to carry-out Transcriptomic expression studies and other types of genomics data analysis reveal these interactions.  Apart from this, he is also enjoys working on Genome-based Phylogenetic reclassifications, GMO testing and miRNA-mRNA target site predictions using in-silico tools. Dr. Shahzad has authored/co-authored more than 20 journal articles and have 24+ impact factor at the moment. He has been serving as reviewer and editorial board member for many leading journals in the field of Genomics, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.
