Faculty of Media and Mass Communication Driving Efforts Towards a Greener Planet

The Faculty of Media and Mass Communication (FMMC), in collaboration with Pak Mission Society, organized a symposium on Climate Change Day titled “Youth Leadership in Climate Action: Solutions for a Sustainable Future” on 28th October 2024. The event took place from 10 AM to 2 PM at the UCP Main Auditorium.

Dr. Fahad Anis, Head of Department (HoD) at FMMC, served as the Focal Person from UCP. Dr. Fawad Baig, Dean of FMMC, opened the event with a speech on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate action, welcoming participants, including Mr. Ahmer Shahzad, Project Manager at Pak Mission Society.

FMMC recognizes the power of communication and its effects on social, cultural, political, and global levels in a highly interconnected world. The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were highlighted, aiming for “Peace and Prosperity for People and the Planet.” The SDG on Climate Change emphasizes the necessity for humanity to limit and adapt to climate change, urging immediate action to combat its impacts.

To actively engage students, four competitions were incorporated into the symposium, including video, poster, speech, and model competitions. FMMC successfully engaged students from UCP and various schools across Lahore in raising awareness about climate change.

The symposium featured a panel discussion on climate change action. Our distinguished panelists included Dr. Atif Ashraf, Head of Department (HoD) at FMMC; Mr. Hassan Bin Sadat, Lecturer at the College of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of the Punjab; Mr. Umar Chaudhary, Senior Manager of Communication at Lahore Waste Management Company; and Mr. Sajid Qudoos Awan, Chief Conservator of Forest Extension and Research at the Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries Department, Government of Punjab. Mr. Syed Ibrar Abulhassan hosted the symposium and moderated the panel, while Mr. Ahsan Farooqi, Senior Lecturer, was part of the organizing team.
