First International Conference on Erasure, Resistance, and Innovation

The Faculty of Languages and Literature organized its first international conference on the theme Erasure, Resistance, and Innovation on June 6 & 7, 2024. The conference aimed to explore ideas revolving around Political erasure of unwanted individuals, communities, cultures, identities, languages, and knowledge through forced and orchestrated collective amnesia. The incorporation of a panel discussion regarding the recent massacre and genocide in Palestine played a pivotal role in raising awareness and voice against oppression.

The chief guest of the two-day international conference was Ms. Feryal Ali Gohar who is an eminent champion for the preservation of Pakistan’s heritage sites and is currently Advisor to the Water and Power Development Authority for the management of cultural heritage in the direct impact area of Diamer Basha Dam. Many other notable national and international speakers, including Dr. Suzanne Flynn (MIT, USA), Dr. Claire Chambers (York University, UK), Dr. Bryant Scott (Texas University, Qatar), Dr. Esra Santosso (Georgia University, USA), Dr. Zahid Ch. (Taif University, KSA), Dr. Boaventure De Souza (Purtugal), Dr. Aroosa Kanwal (Qauid-e-Azam University, Islamabad), Dr. Muhammad Shahbaz Arif, Dr. Asma Mansoor (IIU, Islamabad), and Dr. Mariam Zia (LSE, Lahore) attended the conference.

The dedication of the organizing committees, the insights shared by renowned speakers, and the innovative use of technology further enhanced the conference’s impact. Alongside this, the conference featured interdisciplinary research, showcased innovative methodologies, and facilitated engaging parallel sessions, thought-provoking panel discussions, and a vibrant cultural night.
