Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, Professor of Chemistry and Director of ORIC at the University of Central Punjab (UCP), Lahore, conducted a comprehensive training workshop on “Generative Artificial Intelligence in Research, Teaching, and Professional Development” at the University of Engineering and Technology.
The workshop began with an overview of GenAI and its applications in research—covering strategies for drafting outlines, conducting intelligent searches, understanding academic content, and generating research writing with AI assistance. This was followed by hands-on exploration of GenAI tools in teaching and learning, including course generation, lesson planning, grammar enhancement, paraphrasing, quiz development, and assessment creation.
In the post-break session, participants delved into advanced AI-supported instructional design. Topics included revisiting Bloom’s Taxonomy through GenAI, formulating learning objectives and outcomes, crafting action plans, and designing modules using AI platforms. The workshop concluded with a critical discussion on ethical frameworks for responsible GenAI integration in academia.
Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir (TI), currently Vice Chancellor of UET Lahore, initiated this transformative effort in his capacity as Chairman of the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC). He launched Pakistan’s first-ever initiative on the use of Generative AI in higher education, setting a national precedent for capacity building in academia. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh was the first trainer under this pioneering program, leading the way in equipping faculty members with cutting-edge AI tools and practices to enhance teaching, research, and professional development.
