On December 19-20, 2024, the Faculty of Media and Mass Communication (FMMC) held the 4th UCP FMMC Film Festival 2024, bringing together creative individuals from all over Pakistan. Over two days, the festival showcased the best student and independent filmmaker works, including Short Films, Documentaries, and Music Videos. But it wasn’t just about watching films – it also served as a space for discussion and inspiration. A key moment was the panel discussion on “Film as a Medium of Social Critique,” led by Mr. Kamran Butt (Principal Lecturer & Team Lead). The panel included Mr. Hassan Zaidi (Documentary Maker & Lecturer at NCA, Lahore) and Mr. Syed M. Raza Zaidi (Associate Professor at UoL & former Senior TV Producer), who shared their insights on how cinema can bring about social change. FMMC students Horeb Shams and Ghulam Shabbir also entertained the crowd with beautiful acoustic performances. The event was hosted by FMMC students Qaima Amir and Minahil Rauf. At the end of the festival, Dr. Hammad Naveed (Pro-Rector UCP) presented shields to the special guests, and Dr. Fawad Baig (Dean FMMC) gave a shield to the Pro-Rector as a thank-you gesture.
The festival provided great learning opportunities for students. It allowed them to see their work showcased alongside others and learn from industry experts. Through the panel discussions, performances, and networking, students gained valuable insights into the power of film and media, boosting their creativity and passion for the field.
