M.Sc. Electrical Engineering

The M.Sc. Electrical Engineering program at UCP was launched in Fall 2011 and has been running successfully ever since, with a growing network of proud alumni serving in various industries and organizations both in Pakistan and abroad. The program, offered by the Department of Electrical Engineering at UCP, is tailored to keep young electrical engineers up to date with the latest developments in the field.

In today’s industrial landscape, an electrical engineer is required to possess expertise across multiple domains to effectively understand and solve complex engineering problems. Advances, particularly in electronics and computational engineering, have enabled the simulation of sophisticated engineering systems, thereby requiring knowledge in more than one specialization within electrical engineering.

The M.Sc. Electrical Engineering program provides advanced understanding of modern electric power systems, electronic materials, the design and operation of electronic devices, circuits, and embedded systems. It offers a platform for higher learning that prepares students to meet the challenges of the evolving electrical engineering field. With the aim of imparting knowledge on par with international standards, the program is supported by faculty members qualified from renowned international universities, bringing both academic expertise and practical experience to the classroom.

The MS Electrical Engineering program at the University of Central Punjab is designed to meet these evolving demands by offering advanced knowledge across multiple specializations, including:

  • Control Systems Engineering
  • Power Systems Engineering
  • Electronics and Communications Engineering

This interdisciplinary approach prepares students for doctoral studies, academic research, and technical leadership roles in both public and private sectors. The program equips graduates with the necessary skills and tools to solve complex, real-world engineering problems using modern analytical and computational techniques.

  • Option # 1: 30 Credit Hours course work (10 Courses).
  • Option # 2: Minimum 24 Credit Hours course (8 Courses) + 6 Credit Hours thesis.
  • Option # 3: Minimum 27 Credit Hours course (9 Courses) + 3 Credit Hours research project.

The minimum and maximum period for completion of M.S. is 2 years and 4 years respectively. The student will have to complete 08 courses (24 credit hours) in three semester and will have to register in thesis in third semester and complete his/her research work by the end of fourth semester, to complete the degree in 2 years.” The minimum duration for the research work is one year. The research work should be undertaken after passing 06 courses and should be completed in consecutive 02 semester. Any extension in the duration of research work will be granted by competent authority on the request send through proper channel. The topic of the research work must be in line with the course plan and must be approved from the graduation committee.

All the core courses are compulsory while students can choose any elective courses, from the list of offered courses, in consultation with M.S. program coordinator and in line with their specialization/research interests.

Students can also study advance courses from other departments and faculties of the University of Central Punjab. A student can study a maximum of two interdisciplinary courses of master level programs. In this regard, a written application endorsed by program coordinator should be submitted to HoD before the start of the semester. A student can register in a maximum of three courses during any semester.

M.Sc. Student becomes eligible for M.Sc. (Thesis) after completion of six courses provided his / her CGPA is 3.0 or more. Thesis carries a weightage of six credit hours. After registration student is supposed to complete the thesis within a span of two semesters (Semester in which he / she is registered and the following semester). In case the student fails to complete the work he / she will have to re-register and pay the fee again. Student opting for thesis is required to select the topic of research in consultation with a supervisor who will be from the concerned department of the Faculty of Engineering of UCP.
