M.Phil. Pharmacy (Pharmacognosy)

Program Info

This esteemed degree program is being offered for individuals passionate about the study of medicinal plants and natural products. Through especially designed curriculum, students will explore the existing world of Pharmacognosy, leaning about identification, isolation, and characterization of medical compounds of natural origin e.g., plants fungi & marine species.

Duration: 2 years (4 semesters)
Objective: To produce highly skilled professionals with advanced knowledge in pharmacognosy and research methodologies for contributing to drug development, safety, and efficacy studies.
Degree Level: Postgraduate (MS/MPhil)

Program Outline

In the supervision of highly experienced and learned faculty members, students will learn to develop skills in phytochemical analysis, assay-guided extraction, isolation, evaluation, quality control, standardization of medicinal compounds, nutraceuticals and cosmeceuticals.

It is one of the major areas of pharmaceutical sciences; today a highly interdisciplinary science which include parts of botany, organic chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, zoology, anthropology, geography, ethnomedicine, biotechnology etc.

Each candidate of the M.Phil. program is required to complete 30 Cr. Hrs. as per the following details:

Eligibility Criteria

(i)	At least 2.00/4.00 CGPA or 50% marks from an annual system in Pharm-D/B-Pharm or equivalent
(ii)	All candidates are required to pass the UCP Admission Test with a 50% score or the GRE/HAT General/equivalent test with a passing score of 50%, followed by an interview by the Graduate Admission Committee

A student admitted to this program will have to complete the following degree requirements:

24 Cr. Hrs. course work with 6 Cr. Hrs. Thesis
Minimum CGPA of 2.50 on a scale of 4.00
