Mr. Ahmad Hassan successfully defended his PhD thesis titled “Molecular Mechanisms of Plant-derived Inhibitors Involved in the Management of Fusarium oxysporum” under the supervision of Dr. Sumera Zaib, Head of the Department of Basic and Applied Chemistry, on 17.12.2024. Prof. Dr. Tehmina Anjum from University of the Punjab served as his co-supervisor. The defence was chaired by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, Dean FOST, and evaluated by external examiners Prof. Dr. Abdul Rehman Khan Niazi, University of the Punjab, Lahore, and Prof. Dr. Zubaida Yousaf, Lahore College for Women University, Lahore.
Mr. Hassan’s groundbreaking research explored the use of plant-derived biocontrol agents to manage Fusarium oxysporum, demonstrating elevated expression of defense-related genes and paving the way for sustainable fungal control strategies. This marks a major achievement for the Department of Basic and Applied Chemistry, with Mr. Hassan being the 6th PhD graduate under Dr. Sumera Zaib’s supervision and the 4th successful PhD defense of 2024, highlighting the supervisor and department’s significant contributions to Biochemistry and interdisciplinary research.
