Nabeel Khalid, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, successfully defended his doctoral thesis titled “Detection and Classification of Degenerative Disorders in Electroencephalogram”, which he completed under the supervision of Dr. Sarwar Ehsan, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology. The defense took place on December 19, 2024, with the session conducted by Mr. Ali Raza, Manager of the Graduate Studies Office, and convened by Dr. Rizwan Shad, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.
The panel of examiners included Dr. Yaqoob Javed, Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at COMSATS University, Lahore, and Dr. Ghulam Abbas, Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Lahore, serving as external examiners. Dr. Fesal Toosy, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Central Punjab (UCP), acted as the internal examiner.
During the defense, Nabeel Khalid demonstrated how his research contributes to the early detection of Parkinson’s disease by utilizing a Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) classifier and Power Spectral Density (PSD) analysis to examine brain wave patterns from raw Electroencephalogram (EEG) data.
The panel and faculty members present congratulated Nabeel Khalid on his significant achievement, recognizing the potential of his research to provide new solutions and revolutionary ideas in the medical field.
