FOE's Industrial Visit to the 220kV Substation

On December 24, 2024, the Faculty of Engineering arranged an industrial visit for BSc Electrical Engineering students to the 220kV GIS/132kV AIS Substation in WAPDA Town, Lahore. Dr. Ali Ahmad, Assistant Professor at FoE, organized the visit. The tour started with an introduction to the role of NTDC in Pakistan’s energy sector. Mr. Umair (Deputy Manager) and Mr. Shahzaib (Assistant Manager) gave an informative presentation about the different parts of the substation, such as the Control System, Battery Bank, Protection System, Transformers, CTs, PTs, Circuit Breakers, and how the voltage is stepped down from 220kV to 11kV.

The hands-on experience at the substation allowed students to apply what they have learned in the classroom, giving them a better understanding of how things work in the real world. The visit ended with a Q&A session where students had the chance to ask questions and receive helpful advice from the experts.

The Engineering Department is deeply committed to providing valuable learning opportunities like this, which help students gain practical knowledge and prepare for successful careers in the energy sector. Such visits add great value to their education by bridging the gap between theory and practice.
