On December 24, 2024, the Faculty of Languages and Literature (FLL) hosted a panel discussion called “Reading Popular Romance in 21st Century Pakistan.” The event featured three distinguished scholars: Dr. Javaria Farooqui, Assistant Professor at COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus; Dr. Amna Umer, Associate Professor at the University of the Punjab, Lahore; and Dr. Qurra-tul-Aen Liaqat, Associate Professor at Forman Christian College University (FCCU), Lahore.
The panelists discussed how romance is portrayed in modern Pakistani literature, covering cultural, social, and literary aspects. The discussion gave students and faculty a chance to think about how popular romance stories have changed and how they connect to today’s Pakistan. Dr. Javaria Farooqui also shared her book, “Romance Fandom in 21st-Century Pakistan”, as a key reference for the topic.
The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Fehmida Sultana, the Dean, Dr. Babar Sultan Ali Khan, the Head of Department, along with faculty members and students. Dr. Babar S. A. Khan closed the session by thanking the panelists. The event concluded with a group photo and the presentation of souvenirs to the panelists.
