Mr. Bashir Ahmed Shaheen has completed his PhD in Biochemistry. He defended his doctoral thesis, titled “Genetic Basis of Obesity and Associated Biomarkers in Selected Population of Pakistan” and his PhD Synopsis Defense was conducted by the Graduate Studies office of UCP. His research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Afzal, Associate Professor at the Department of Basic and Applied Chemistry, UCP, with Dr. Zia ur Rahman, Assistant Professor at the Department of Biotechnology, UCP, serving as Co-Supervisor.
The Thesis Defense Committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology, UCP. The thesis evaluation was carried out by esteemed external examiners, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tayyab from the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore, and Prof. Dr. Tahir from the University of the Punjab.
Mr. Bashir’s research focused on the genetic factors contributing to obesity in the Pakistani population and their impact on metabolic health and associated comorbidities.
