First GMO Testing Report In Cotton Delivered To Industry

Faculty of Life Sciences delivered its first official report of GMO testing in cotton to TTI textile testing on 01-12-2021.

A delegation of technical experts led by Mr. Hamed K Lateef (CEO) & Mr. Sarim Mehmood (GM Strategy and Business Operations) from Textile Testing Labs (Tti), Lahore visited University of Central Punjab on 01-12-2021 to receive the first official GMO report on cotton & to know more about UCP’s capability in GMOs and DNA testing for broad range of food products for sharing with their German strategic partner working on DNA based traceability systems in different food products.

Dr. Javed Iqbal (Dean FLS) briefed the delegation about the principles and protocols for GMO testing of cotton and other relevant species. He further discussed the applications of the GMO testing based on ELISA, qPCR, RT-PCR and Next Generation Sequencing in Industry.

Prorector UCP, Dr. Nassar Ikram, appreciated the efforts of Dr. Javed Iqbal and his team and expressed his strong intentions to further collaborate with industry with full zeal and passion.

Tti labs showed its utmost satisfaction with the outcome and Mr. Hamed praised this as the first step for enhancing the cotton exports from Pakistan. He lauded the efforts of UCP and expressed that this initiative marks the practical beginning of the scientific collaboration between UCP’s Faculty of Life Sciences and the Tti Labs for strengthening university-industry linkages and translating the vision of the strategic leadership of UCP into reality.
