IEEE Conference on Horizons of Information Technology and Engineering (HITE 2024)

The IEEE HITE 2024 conference successfully brought together experts, academics, and students for a two-day event focused on the latest advancements in artificial intelligence, data science, robotics, software engineering, power systems, and electronic communication. Organized by the Faculty of Information Technology & Computer Science (FoIT & CS) and the Faculty of Engineering (FoE) at the University of Central Punjab, in collaboration with the IEEE Lahore Section, IEEE Robotics & Automation Society (Islamabad-Lahore-Karachi) Joint Sections Chapter, and IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society Lahore Section Chapter, the conference provided a platform for presenting research, engaging in discussions, and exploring practical applications of emerging technologies.

The conference commenced with an opening ceremony held at the UCP Auditorium, featuring:

The conference featured four keynote sessions:
Day 1 Keynote Presentations:
• Prof. Dr. Andrew Ware: Delivered an inspiring talk titled “Virtual Reality: A Catalyst for Upskilling Medical Staff in Developing Economies,” sharing insights on VR’s transformative role in medical education, particularly its accessibility for medical staff training in resource-limited settings.
• Prof. Dr. Stefan Poslad: Presented “Establishing a Low-Cost Air Quality Sensor Network to Study Spatial-Temporal Micro-Climate Variations in a Public Urban Setting,” focusing on developing accessible, low-cost technologies for monitoring and analyzing urban environmental conditions.
• Prof. Dr. Yasar Ayaz: Discussed “AI on the Leading Edge,” highlighting the forefront of artificial intelligence advancements and its transformative potential across various sectors.
Day 2 Keynote Presentations:
• Prof. Dr. Zuriati Ahmad Zukarnain: Discussed “Post-Quantum Cryptography Algorithms for Quantum Key Distribution,” a timely topic addressing the future of secure communications in a quantum computing world.
• Prof. Dr. Stefan Poslad: Explored “The Rise of Things that can Think – Internet of Intelligent Things (IoIT),” discussing the future of interconnected, intelligent devices across industries.
Technical Sessions and Tracks
The conference was organized into focused tracks covering a wide array of topics, featuring a total of 48 accepted papers scheduled for presentations. The tracks included:
• Artificial Intelligence and Data Science: Presentations included applications of AI in autism care, autonomous vehicle control, and medical diagnostics, along with discussions on predictive analytics and federated learning.
• Remote Sensing and Robotics: Papers examined the role of remote sensing in monitoring marine pollution and enhancing agricultural productivity. Significant topics included using satellite imagery for environmental change detection and advancements in robotics for agricultural applications.
• Software Engineering and Deep Learning: This track showcased deep learning’s impact in various domains, including medical imaging and cybersecurity. Presentations featured insights on AI applications in oncology and methodologies for deep learning in diagnostics.
• Electronic Devices, Circuits, Power, and Energy: Innovations in power electronics and IoT applications aimed at enhancing energy efficiency were highlighted. Research topics included machine learning applications for renewable energy forecasting, solar photovoltaic optimization, and efficient data center operations.
Workshops and Hands-On Sessions
HITE 2024 also included practical workshops led by domain experts:
• Remote Sensing Workshop: Led by Dr. Adnan Siddique and Mr. Ehtasham Naseer, focusing on technologies for environmental monitoring and climate change tracking.
• Robotics Workshop: Conducted by Dr. Khawaja Fahad Iqbal from NUST, providing participants with hands-on experience in designing and implementing robotic solutions for industrial automation and smart agriculture.
Special Panels and Networking Opportunities
Panel discussions facilitated dialogue among academics and students, addressing key trends in AI and its societal implications. These sessions encouraged lively discussions and fostered networking opportunities among attendees, enriching the overall conference experience.
