University of Central Punjab, Johar Town, Lahore. View mapUCP International Affairs Society (IAS) organized a seminar in collaboration with Pakistan Naval War College, on “CPEC & MARITIME SECURITY”. Commodore (R) Naveed Ahmad and Captain Muhammad Moazzam Nawaz of Pakistan Naval War College, Lahore were the chief guests of the event.
Commodore (R) Naveed Ahmad has been part of the elite submarine force of Pakistan Navy later commanding two submarines. He is an anti-submarine specialist from France and missile specialist from the US. He joined the faculty of Pakistan Naval War College as Director Research in 2010. He is an author of the book on Operational Planning, which he teaches at Naval War College.
Captain Moazzam Nawaz joined Pakistan Navy in January 1994 and was commissioned in the Weapon Engineering Branch of Pakistan Navy in January 1996. He was awarded Chief of the Naval Staff Gold Medal. He served as Weapon Engineer Officer onboard PNS KHAIBAR and was commissioning WEO of latest PN F-22P ship PNS SHAMSHEER. Besides all these, he also served on various assignments in Pakistan Naval Headquarters (NHQ). Presently the Officer is serving in PNWC as Senior Instructor.
In the start of the event, Prof. Dr. Rashid Ahmad Khan; HOD Politics & IR addressed the audience and gave a short introduction of the seminar. Afterward, Mrs.Ayesha Kamal; Patron (IAS) discussed the objectives and aims of the society.
In his address the Chief Guest Captain Moazzam explained the history of Naval War College, its functions, academic curricular, working environment and its staff.
The Chief Guest (R) Commodore Naveed Ahmad explained briefly about Maritime security and importance of Gwadar Port in context of CPEC through the slide’s presentation. He also discussed China’s interests, role, and development in the region. He described shipping routes in the area, especially in the Indian Ocean, carrying trade between China and the Region. He further explained the US interests in the region and its competition with China. He explained about the job opportunities that are provided by CPEC. He was very hopeful and optimistic about this project.
The address by the chief guests was followed by an interactive Question/Answer session with the students.
In the End Respected Dean, FASS, Dr. Fehmida Sultana gave Vote of Thanks and presented the souvenirs to the Chief Guests. Furthermore, the Chief Guests presented the souvenir on behalf of PNWC to Dean, FASS.
