Mandated with promoting industry oriented applied research, CAR at UCP Business School made a big stride on Tuesday, 30th April by signing an MOU with the Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM). The ceremony took place at the end of an industry roundtable jointly organized by CAR and BBA Program Office. This MOU sets out the general principles of cooperation and identified the role of each party as they intend to collaborate under the umbrella of industry-academia linking endeavors.Mr. BasharatJaved Awan, Vice Chairman, PAAPAM and Dr. Faisal Mustafa, Dean, UCP Business School signed the MOU.

Director of CAR, Dr. Hassan Rauf shared that the center had conceived a logical concatenation of phased activities pursuant to this formal interaction with potential industry stakeholders, with deliverables at each stage. These multipronged activities would be part of spiral paving the way for a concluding policy recommendation document that could serve the needs of policymakers, industrial stakeholders and academia interested in understanding the spectrum of automotive vendor industry in Pakistan. In the process, CAR would also delve into an exploration of operational and tactical challenges through case writing, potentially bringing in consulting and training opportunities for UCP Business School. These efforts, under the ambit of School’s strategic goals for integration with industry and society, are expected to add to the institution’s prestige and market standing.

Earlier, BBA Program Office had arranged an expert talk session by the PAAPAM delegation for School’s general faculty and students. The session helped the audience understand the evolution of the automotive industry in Pakistan, its culture, industry norms and common practices. The delegates also shared some of the key tactical issues faced by the SME level manufacturers in the sector along with regulatory challenges that need to be addressed.
