Seminar on Corpus Approaches to Discourse Analysis

The Department of English conducted a seminar on Corpus Approaches to Discourse Analysis. The guest speaker was Dr. Akhter Abbas. He did his Ph.D. from Air University, Islamabad. Currently, he is serving as Director Corpus Linguistics Center, Air University. The seminar was attended by the faculty members and the students. His lecture was insightful for the students of BS and M.Phil. English with regard to the emerging field of Corpus Linguistics. He talked about the nexus of corpus linguistics with other fields. He explained and discussed the jargons of the corpus linguistics which evoke interest of the students towards the Corpus Linguistics. DR. Akhter Abbas discussed the application of ‘MetaPak’ – a software developed by him for the analysis of English Corpora at Meta-Discourse level.  The students showed a keen interest in the seminar. At the end of the seminar, Dr. Ismat Jabeen, Program Director, presented UCP souvenir to Dr. Akhter Abbas as a token of thanks.
