University of Central Punjab, Johar Town, Lahore. View mapThe UCP International Affairs Society (IAS) organized a seminar on “Indian Elections and its implications on India-Pakistan relations”. The Chief Guest was Shamshad Ahmad, Former Foreign Secretary of Pakistan.
Shamshad Ahmad is a veteran Pakistani diplomat, international relations expert and an author who served as the Foreign Secretary of Pakistan from 1997 to 2000. He also served as the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations between 2000 till 2002. Shamshad Ahmad also was the Pakistan’s ambassador to South Korea and Iran. He currently writes a weekly column for The News International. Before that, he was a regular contributor to The Nation. He also writes occasionally for The Express Tribune.
In the start of the event, Prof. Dr. Rashid Ahmad Khan; HOD Politics & IR addressed the audience and gave a short introduction to the event. Afterward, Mrs. Ayesha Kamal; Patron (IAS) discussed the State of Democracy in India and it’s political structure.
In his address, the Chief Guest explained the political condition of India and about its political parties. He discussed the process of Elections in India, that how Elections are held in India and also the structure of the Indian Election Commission. He explained the Manifesto of BJP and Congress in Indian Elections. He also discussed the status of Minorities in India and their role in these Indian Elections. He also compared the Indian and Pakistani Elections. He further discussed the Impact of Indian Elections on Pakistan.
After the address by the Chief Guest there was a Question/Answer session in which he furthered interacted with the students regarding the topic discussed earlier.
In the End Respected Dean, FASS, Dr. Fehmida Sultana gave Vote of Thanks and presented the souvenir to the Chief Guest.
