BS Interior Design

The BS Interior Design program at the University of Central Punjab is a four-year, interdisciplinary undergraduate degree offered through the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering. It integrates creative interior design with construction technology, building materials, digital design, Building Information Modelling (BIM), artificial intelligence, sustainability, smart-building systems, cost estimation, project management and professional practice.

The program prepares students to convert a design concept into a coordinated, cost-effective and constructible interior environment. Studio-based learning, practical laboratories, digital visualization, industry engagement, field training and a comprehensive capstone project develop the creative, technical and managerial competence required for residential, commercial, hospitality, healthcare, retail, institutional and mixed-use projects.

 Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

The graduates of the BS Interior Design program will demonstrate the creative, technical, managerial, and professional competencies necessary to contribute effectively to the design and construction of interior built environments. The program aims to produce graduates who will:

PEO-1: Professional Excellence
Demonstrate competence in interior design, construction technology, digital design, and project delivery by planning, designing, coordinating, and managing interior construction projects that satisfy functional, aesthetic, technical, economic, and regulatory requirements.

PEO-2: Innovation and Digital Transformation
Apply creativity, critical thinking, and emerging digital technologies—including Building Information Modeling (BIM), artificial intelligence (AI), digital visualization, and smart building systems—to develop innovative, sustainable, and technology-enabled solutions for the built environment.

PEO-3: Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Professional Practice
Establish successful careers as interior designers, construction professionals, project managers, consultants, researchers, or entrepreneurs by demonstrating leadership, teamwork, effective communication, ethical conduct, and sound business practices in multidisciplinary environments.

PEO-4: Sustainable Development and Lifelong Learning
Promote sustainable, inclusive, healthy, and resilient interior environments while engaging in continuous professional development, lifelong learning, and responsible practices that contribute to society and the advancement of the built environment profession.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

Upon successful completion of the BS Interior Design program, graduates will be able to:

PLO-1 Design and Construction Knowledge
Apply knowledge of interior design principles, construction technologies, building materials, digital tools, mathematics, and allied sciences to solve complex built environment problems.

PLO-2 Problem Analysis
Identify, investigate, and analyze interior design and construction challenges by integrating technical, functional, aesthetic, environmental, and user-centered considerations to develop appropriate solutions.

PLO-3 Design and Development of Solutions
Design innovative, safe, sustainable, and functional interior environments that satisfy client requirements while complying with building regulations, accessibility standards, construction practices, and environmental considerations.

PLO-4 Investigation and Research
Conduct research, collect and analyze data, evaluate alternative design and construction solutions, and apply evidence-based decision-making to improve project outcomes.

PLO-5 Digital Technologies and Modern Tools
Select and apply appropriate digital technologies and professional software—including CAD, BIM, visualization, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and project management tools—for planning, designing, documenting, and managing interior construction projects.

PLO-6 Sustainability and the Built Environment
Evaluate the environmental, social, cultural, economic, health, and safety implications of design and construction decisions and promote sustainable, resilient, and resource-efficient built environments.

PLO-7 Ethics and Professional Responsibility
Apply ethical principles, professional standards, legal requirements, and responsible practices while respecting diversity, inclusion, client confidentiality, and societal values in professional practice.

PLO-8 Individual and Collaborative Teamwork
Work effectively as an individual and as a member or leader of multidisciplinary teams involving architects, engineers, contractors, interior designers, consultants, clients, and other stakeholders.

PLO-9 Communication
Communicate design concepts, technical information, construction documentation, reports, presentations, specifications, and project proposals effectively using verbal, written, graphical, and digital communication techniques.

PLO-10 Project Management and Entrepreneurship
Apply principles of project management, cost estimation, scheduling, procurement, contract administration, quality assurance, leadership, and entrepreneurship to successfully deliver interior design and construction projects.

PLO-11 Lifelong Learning and Innovation
Recognize the importance of lifelong learning, adaptability, innovation, critical thinking, and continuous professional development in response to emerging technologies, changing industry practices, and global trends.

Graduates may establish interior-design, renovation, fit-out, furniture, visualization or smart-home businesses and offer freelance design services.

International opportunities include BIM, hospitality and commercial design, fit-out management and digital visualization. Emerging fields include AI-assisted design, digital twins, smart interiors, sustainable buildings, AR/VR and modular construction.

A strong portfolio, internships and skills in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, BIM and visualization software significantly enhance employability.

Subject to the prevailing UCP Undergraduate Regulations and applicable HEC requirements, the BS Interior Design degree will be awarded to a student who has:

  • successfully completed all 135 credit hours in the approved Scheme of Studies;
  • earned a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.00 on a 4.00 scale, or the minimum prescribed by the prevailing University regulations;
  • successfully completed the 3-credit-hour internship / field training requirement;
  • successfully completed Capstone Project-I and Capstone Project-II, totaling 6 credit hours;
  • satisfied all course, assessment, attendance, academic integrity and other mandatory degree requirements prescribed by UCP; and
  • completed the degree within the maximum duration permitted under the prevailing University regulations.
