MS Biochemistry

Biochemistry is the foundation of all Life Sciences, bridging the gap between Chemistry and modern biological research. Fields such as Biotechnology, Microbiology, Genetics, and Medical Sciences rely heavily on Biochemistry to understand life at the molecular and cellular levels. In today’s rapidly advancing scientific era, the integration of Chemistry with Biochemistry is driving innovation in healthcare, biotechnology, diagnostics, and pharmaceutical sciences.

The standard program structure for MS in Biochemistry is as under:

Maximum: 4 years (8 regular semesters)
Semester Duration 16-18 weeks for regular semesters (1-2 weeks for examination)
8-9 weeks for summer semesters (1 week for examination)
Course Load (per semester) 09-12 credit hours for regular semesters, up to 8 credit hours for summer semesters (for remedial / deficiency/failure/repetition courses only)
3 Credit Hours (Theory)3 classes (1 hour each) OR
2 classes (1.5 hours each) OR 1 class (3 hours)
At least 2.00/4.00 CGPA or 50% marks from an annual system in a relevant field.
Candidates having undergraduate degrees (involving 16 years of education) in any discipline other than but relevant to the field of Biochemistry are also eligible for admission to the program subject to completion of deficiency courses up-to a maximum of fifteen (15) credit hours to be determined by the concerned department
Candidates are required to pass the UCP Admission Test with a 50% score or the GRE/HAT General/equivalent test with a passing score of 50%, followed by an interview by the Graduate Admission Committee

With the rapid growth of biotechnology, precision medicine, and healthcare innovation, Biochemistry graduates are increasingly in demand in both industry and research sectors worldwide.

Completion of 30 credit hours including 24 credit hours course work and 6 credit hours thesis & Viva voce. However, students will also follow the following guidelines

  • Completion of course work within four regular semesters (two years) of enrolment with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 out of 4.00.
  • Following the completion of course work with the CPGA 2.5/4.00 will be mandatory for the pursuance of research credit hours.
  • The minimum duration required to complete the degree is four (04) regular semesters which may be extended up to a maximum of eight (08) regular semesters. Summer semester is not considered as a regular semester.
