Prof. Dr. Khalid Manzoor Butt, an accomplished academic and researcher, is the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Central Punjab (UCP) in Lahore, Pakistan. Prior to that, he served as Dean of Arts & Social Sciences at the GC University (GCU) in Lahore 2019–2022. In the same institution, he was Chairperson of the Department of Political Science, 2011–2022, Director of the Centre of Excellence China Studies 2014–2022, and Chief Editor of The Journal of Political Science 2011–2022.
He also nurtured the Endowment Fund Trust 2006–2022 at GCU and generated funds to give financial aid to needy & deserving students until the completion of their degrees. His objective and commitment to helping downtrodden communities never ended with his retirement from GCU. So, in 2022, the charity organization ‘Allah Walay Trust’ invited him to work as an honorary Director thus initiated a scholarship program for those deserving students pursuing professional degrees in public sector institutions.
Dr. Butt remained a fellow at the Zentrum für Entwicklungsforschung (ZEF), University of Bonn, Germany, 2013, and at the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Center, China University of Geosciences, Wuhan, 2017, 2019, 2023 & 2024, and was involved in collaborative research projects. In recognition of his services, Dr. Butt was conferred the ‘Friendship Award in Academia 2023’ by the Consulate General of China in Lahore. Prof. Butt is also a member of the Global Advisory Board of the Human Dignity and Humiliation Studies.
Since 2022, Dr. Butt has been associated with UCP as Dean FOHSS and given the additional responsibility of ‘President of Students Societies’ to streamline and activate students’ bodies.
He is a prolific researcher and published one book and 49 research articles in national and international journals. So far, he has supervised 5 PhD, 25 MPhils, and various MA and BA Hons dissertations. He also edited about 20 volumes of research journals and 6 conference proceedings. Furthermore, he arranged 8 international conferences and various seminars. His areas of interest are Human Rights, Social Development, Energy, and Politics of the Indian Ocean. He has traveled across the globe and participated in various international conferences where he chaired sessions and presented his papers.
