The 26th Academic Council meeting of the University of Central Punjab (UCP) was held on Tuesday, focusing on enhancing quality education and updating curricula to align with industry standards. The meeting was chaired by Pro-Rector, UCP, Prof. Dr. Hammad Naveed, all the UCP deans, relevant heads of departments (HoDs), and directors were the participants. The academic council approved launch of two new MS programs and gave approval to revise roadmaps for various undergraduate programs.
Dr. Mazhar Iqbal, Dean Academics at UCP, presented the agenda of the meeting, which featured discussions on working papers submitted by eight faculties, various departments and directorates. These include the Faculty of Engineering (FOE), Faculty of Science and Technology (FOST), Faculty of Media and Mass Communication (FMMC), Faculty of Law (FoL), Faculty of Management Sciences (FoMS), Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS), Faculty of Languages and Literature (FLL), and Faculty of Information Technology (FoIT).
The Academic Council approved revised roadmaps for FOE, FOST, FMMC, FoL, FoMS, and FHSS. Furthermore, the council approved the addition of new courses to the programs in the Faculty of Engineering (FOE), Faculty of Science and Technology (FOST), and Faculty of Languages and Literature (FLL) to enrich the curriculum and align with contemporary academic standards.
A major highlight of the meeting was the approval of two new MS programs: Engineering Management under FOE, and Physical Education and Sports Sciences under FHSS. These programs aim to cater to growing demand in these fields and align with UCP’s commitment to quality education.
Moreover, the council approved prerequisite deficiency courses for students seeking admission to interdisciplinary BS programs in FOE and FoIT. In a significant move, the council also approved admissions for Pre-Medical students into FOE and FoIT, provided they complete the necessary deficiency courses.
The revised faculty workload policy and summer semester regulations were also endorsed, reflecting UCP’s ongoing efforts to optimize academic operations.
Pro-Rector Dr. Hammad Naveed thanked the participants for their input and lauded the faculties for their commitment to adapting curricula to the evolving needs of the time. He emphasized the importance of continuously aligning educational programs with industry standards to maintain UCP’s reputation for academic excellence.
