Awareness session on Intellectual Property Rights

University of Central Punjab (UCP) organized an awareness session on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) from the platform of ORIC with the collaboration of Faculty of Life Sciences and Department of Food Sciences on 23 December. Mr. Muhammad Ismail, Director IPO Pakistan was invited as a key note speaker.

The session entailed a welcome note by the Pro-Rector UCP, Dr. Nassar Ikram, who emphasized on the importance of IP and focus of the UCP leadership in developing the IP Protection culture. During the detailed presentation given by Mr. Ismail (Director IPO), it was discussed how inventors can benefit from protecting their IPs and what are the royalty channels that follow afterwards. Moreover, some real-world IP case studies were also discussed.

In direct relevance to UCP’s efforts to increase its pool of IPs, certificates were also distributed amongst the winning teams of the Food Product Development competition which was recently organized by the Faculty of Life Sciences under the Department of Food Sciences. As a result of this competition 50 potential IPs have also been identified. The session concluded on a short networking between the delegate from IPO and faculty members.
