UCP MUSIC SOCIETY hosted first-ever Music Competition

The UCP Music Society recently organized the first-ever inter-university music competition. About 70 students representing 17 different institutions, including universities, DAIs, and HEIs participated. The competition featured four categories: Classical/Semi-classical, Folk/Sufi, Light (pop/ghazal), and Instrumental.Prof. Dr. Khalid Manzoor Butt, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, honored the occasion by presenting the awards, adding prestige and encouragement to the participants.

Teams from various prestigious institutions such as FCCU, DHJ, PU, UMT, GCU, GCCL, UET, PGC, LCWU, UOL, SU, CMIS, GCU Fbd, PU, RIU, and QLC took part in the competition. The judges panel included: Rustam Fateh Ali Khan (Tamgha e Imtiaz) classical singer of Patya Gharana, Mr Abdul Rauf famous, a well-known folk singer, and music teacher at Alhamra Arts Council and Kinnaird College and Mr Arshad Khokhar, an eminent singer and instrumentalist.
Cash prizes worth PKR 30,000, 20,000, and 10,000 were awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd position respectively. A cash prize worth PKR 30,000 was awarded for overall team trophies.

In the Folk/Sufi category, Aysha Tariq from PGC secured 1st place, Maham Tahir from GCU took 2nd place and Mohsin Ali Javed from GCU achieved 3rd place. For the Light Singing (Ghazal/Pop) category, Rohail Asghar from PU won 1st place, Ali Raees from UET came in 2nd, and Maryam Siddique from GCU secured 3rd place. In the Instrumental category, Suneel John from DHN won 1st place, M. Roshan from UOL took 2nd place and Muhammad Haroon from Superior University came in 3rd. For the Classical/Semi-classical category, Meesam Abbas Jaffery from GCU won 1st place, Ahsan Malik from UMT secured 2nd and Syed Asghar Ali Gillani from RIU placed 3rd. GCU won the overall team trophy.
