Introduction

Microorganisms are found in soil, air, water, food, sewage, and on body surface. In short, every area of our environment is replete with them. The microbiologist separates these mixed populations into individual species in Microbiology Laboratory. Well come to Microbiology Laboratory, Faculty of Life Sciences, UCP. The Lab is actively engaged in teaching practical and research of BS, MS and PhD students of the faculty. This lab covers basic concepts of microbiology with an emphasis on sterile technique, microscopy, isolation and cultivation of microorganisms. Identification of pathogenic organisms, antibiotic susceptibility testing, epidemiology and the detection of microbes in food are also covered.  Currently many postgraduate students are working in Microbiology lab on different research areas. To increase research activities and to provide a more conducive environment for research the Lab has several ongoing research projects such as understanding molecular identification of antibiotic resistance and genotypic characterization of the Multidrug resistant microbes and has submitted some projects to national and international funding agencies.
