Operations Management of a Social Enterprise

Department of Marketing, Operations and Supply Chain Management and Inclusive Student Society organized a guest speaker session on Monday, 29th August, 2022. The session was arranged by Ms. Syeda Uzma Tahira (Lecture Operations and Supply Chain Management, Patron Inclusive Student Society). The theme of the session was “Operations Management of a Social Enterprise”. The objectives of the session were;

  1. Discussing operations and supply chain activities of a social enterprise
  2. Discussing social entrepreneurship ideas
  3. Discussing possibilities of collaboration and research
  4. Discussing the possibilities of future hiring of fresh graduates in the industry

Mr. Naureel Abbas, CEO Wheelchairwala, President Team Dreams was invited as guest speaker. Mr. Naureel Abbas” known as “WheelchairWala” is a disability rights activist. He is UCP Alumnus and the first graduate of his family; and he became the youngest representative at Asia-Pacific level representing Pakistan, while working in one of the top multinational companies in Pakistan.

He has been working with government & non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and not-for-profit organizations focused on persons with disabilities. He is internationally certified Independent Living Center Trainer, Peer Counselling and an expert in assistive devices including manufacturing customized wheelchairs for persons with disabilities from South Korea and Japanese experts.

He has completed the certification IVLP International Visitor Leadership Program from USA on “Strengthening Country Readiness for Health Emergencies” He has been leading initiatives across national and international forums on “Disability Rights” and in process of making the same feasible for Pakistan.

From a rehabilitation trainee to Corporate Trainer with foreign qualification, he upholds his journey to be reckoned as travelogue from pain to pleasure. Learning from abroad International Standard and serving back in his home country is his life’s purpose and the happiness and peace he feels in his soul through the world he has done, be it providing wheelchairs to remote area/villages of Pakistan to individual with disabilities through self-motivated groups and individuals alike.

Students from Department of Marketing, Operations and Supply Chain Management and Inclusive Student Society attended the session. During the session Mr. Naureel Abbas shared his experiences and discussed skill set expected by employers with students. At the end of the session Head of UCP Business School’s Alumni Association, Professor Basharat Malik shared his views about the session and emphasized students to explore entrepreneurship opportunities in the local industry.
