UCP Goes Beyond Words: Faculty of Languages & Literature introduces Sign Language Course for a more inclusive learning environment

The Faculty of Languages & Literature has launched a Sign Language Course commencing on March 11, 2024!

Remarkably, this course is being offered in 11 different sections from the start, indicating tremendous student and departmental interest. It’s a testament to the importance and relevance of this initiative.

Dr. Irfan Abbas, an assistant professor in the Department of Linguistics, has led this program with dedication and vision. He initiated the program by organizing seminars, talks, and workshops, laying a solid foundation. Dr. Abbas successfully integrated sign language into our inaugural national conference, securing approval from all pertinent university bodies and ensuring the procurement of essential resources.

With support from Dr. Fehmida Sultana, Dean, Faculty of Languages and Literature and Dr. Baber Ali Khan, Head of the English Department, along with gratitude to Dr. Abdul Hameed and organizations like Deaf Reach, Deaf Welfare Awareness Foundation, and Hamza Foundation, we’re committed to making our campus more inclusive by incorporating sign language interpretation and welcoming deaf students.
