Social Work Department of Lahore College for Women University conducted a seminar on the effect of corporal punishment on child development in collaboration with NGO Child Rights Movement, Punjab. Syeda Ayesha Sheeraz, Lecturer, FASS, was invited as a guest speaker.  She highlighted effects of various and commonly used disciplinary measures adopted by parents, teachers and significant others on the child’s overall Psychological Development. It was stressed that the use of physical punishment has always been associated with many negative social outcomes, including aggression, disruptive behavior in school, lack of acceptance by peers, crime and delinquency. More over research have consistently reported that Children’s cognitive and intellectual development is also adversely affected by use of corporal punishment as a means to discipline a child.
