Visit of English Department Faculty to Center for Language Engineering at UET, Lahore

Faculty members of English Department, FASS, University of Central Punjab paid an academic visit to the Center for Language Engineering (CLE) at University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore on February 26, 2018. This academic visit was organized by Ms. Farhat Abdullah and welcomed by CLE team at UET. The CLE team briefed the faculty members about different research and computational linguistics projects run by CLE. CLE research team comprises computer scientists and linguists who work hand in hand.  Linguists from UCP were given demonstration on Urdu Speech Recognition System, Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Part of Speech Tagset, and Subjective Testing of Urdu Text-to Speech (TTS) System. A project of the digitization of different regional language dictionaries which include Punjabi, Torwali, Khorwar, and Sindhi was also demonstrated to the UCP linguists. Research team from CLE also gave orientation to the UCP faculty on their project to empower visually impaired people through Voice Integrated with NVDA Screen Reader System. CLE research team also discussed their efforts to develop Plagiarism Check System for Urdu language. The briefing and detailed orientation presented by CLE members was greatly appreciated by the visiting faculty members.
