BS English
The program is constructed in such a way that both options of specialization are available to students as per their interest and choice.
It’s a 4-year degree program consisting of 8 semesters.
The minimum educational certificates required to get admitted to the BS program is a Higher Secondary Education certificate or its equivalent from a recognized educational body with a minimum 2nd division. Scoring 60% marks in an in-house written test by the department.
You will be required to take courses totaling 130 credit hours spread over 8 semesters. Per semester course load is 15-18 credit hours.
The BS English program follows university’s regular day time schedule which starts at 08.00 and normally concludes by 16.30.
MA ELT
MA ELT program is of 2 years’ duration with courses taught over 4 semesters.
A two-year BA degree preferably with an English major with 2nd division (or a CGPA of 2.5) and a departmental entry test is the minimum entry requirement to this program.
As the course title suggests, the program is geared towards educating and training professionals who are likely to develop a career in Education, especially in the teaching of English as a second language. As such, the program heavily focuses on Linguistics and ELT related courses.
The program requires a total of 64 credit hours to be completed. Students are expected to complete 15 credit hours per semester during the first year of the program and 16-18 credit hours during the second year of the program.
The MA ELT program follows university’s regular day time schedule which starts at 08.00 o’clock in the morning and normally concludes by 16.30.
M.Phil./MS Applied Linguistics
Applied Linguistics deals with real life language related issues and plays a mediatory role between Linguistics and other disciplines that try to find solutions of these problems. The M.Phil./MS program educates and trains students who are likely to develop career as professionals in the field of education, language planning, policy making, media and related fields.
It is a 2-year degree program which is conducted over 4 semesters.
An MA/BS degree in English with 2nd division (or a CGPA of 2.5) is the basic requirement for admission to this program. The department also requires an entry test and a formal interview as a precondition to admission. Students need to qualify NTS (General) test too.
The program requires a total of 30 credit hours to be completed by a candidate to qualify for the M.Phil/MS degree. Students are expected to complete 12 credit hours of compulsory courses and then complete the remaining credit hours from a list of elective courses that the department has to offer.
The M.Phil./MS degree program is initially offered to working professionals. To facilitate our working students, the classes are conducted on weekends from 09.00 to 16.00.
