Dr. Muhammad Afzal
Associate Professor, Biochemistry
Dr. Muhammad Afzal is Head of Department of Biochemistry at Faculty of Life Sciences, UCP Lahore. He completed his PhD from University of Agricultural Faisalabad (UAF) in the area of medicinal plants in 2013. During his PhD degree program, his thesis title was “Bioactivity and Biochemical Profiling of Peganum harmala and Cichorium intybus under stress conditions” During his M.Phil. degree, he conducted research on the topic of “Antimicrobial activity and water purification by using Moringa oliefera plant extract” He published more than ten research papers under the domain of medicinal plants. He has attended many conferences, workshops and training related to his field. He has been awarded with scholarships during his studentship like Higher Education Commission (HEC) Indigenous Scholarship for PhD students. He has very good expertise to handle many sophisticated analytical instruments like HPLC, GC-MS, ELISA, PCR, SDS PAGE etc. His Professional research skills include medicinal plant profiling and antimicrobial activity, antifungal protein and peptide, enzymatic, antioxidant purification, photochemistry and total phenolic content determination from medicinal plants, along with well-developed problem solving skills and initiative in establishing new experimental systems.
