Shaista Anwar

Shaista Anwar is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Central Punjab (UCP), Lahore, where she has taught and conducted research. Her teaching spans Jurisprudence, International Law, Property Law, Logic and Reasoning; areas that collectively reflect a sustained interest in both the theoretical foundations of law and its institutional practice. Her scholarly work is increasingly oriented toward International law & law and society research, with a developing focus on data justice and earth Jurisprudence.

Anwar’s teaching methodology is grounded in the conviction that legal reasoning is best developed through practice rather than passive instruction. Across her teaching she employs a structured repertoire of active learning methods such as moot court simulations, parliamentary debate, Model United Nations exercises, directed reading, and case law analysis etc, each chosen for its capacity to build a distinct dimension of legal competence.Together, these methods reflect her deliberate pedagogical philosophy: that the transition from legal knowledge to legal thinking requires students to use the law, not merely receive it.

Her engagement with pedagogy extends beyond the classroom. Anwar is a certified Teaching Excellence Trainer at UCP. Between 2021 and 2024, she delivered the Teaching Excellence programme across nine batches, training colleagues drawn from multiple faculties. This role reflects an institutional recognition of her contribution to academic quality that runs parallel to, and is distinct from, her research record. In 2023–24, she was selected for UCP’s competitive Student Pedagogy Partnership programme, participating in both its course design and course delivery cohorts for Jurisprudence. Her partnership was presented at the closing ceremony of the first cohort as one of the three best partnerships in the programme.

Her conference leadership has given UCP’s Faculty of Law a consistent international presence in the discourse on law, technology and legal education. As Conference Secretary for five consecutive UCP International Conferences (2022–present), she has convened legal scholars and practitioners from over twenty countries, including the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Spain, Malaysia, Kenya, Nigeria, Ireland, Singapore and India, around questions of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, generative AI, and legal education. She also serves as Managing Editor of the UCP Journal of Law and Legal Education and as Faculty Industry Liaison Officer. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at the Law and Society in South Asia Workshop (Lahore, 2023), and she reviews for the various national and international journals.
