UCP Congratulates Dr. Muhammad Majid Gulzar on achieving a Research Grant

UCP congratulates Dr. Muhammad Majid Gulzar (Associate Professor- Faculty of Engineering) on winning a research grant worth € 50,000/- on the topic: ASIA-CONNECT Project ICT Research and Development for Rural/Remote Areas of Pakistan. Many rural areas, hospitals, schools, colleges, and village towns are without communication and internet facilities. This is one of the major causes of backwardness and poor social/economic conditions of the rural community.

The proposed solution consists of the design and development of a wireless system that could be deployed off the grid at locations without power or network infrastructure. A wireless back-haul mechanism will be developed based on multi-hop techniques and long-distance WiFi terminals to connect the rural community with the internet coverage and to connect Open BTS base stations to the outside world.

Autobiography: Dr. Muhammad Majid Gulzar is currently an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Engineering, University of Central Punjab, Pakistan. He did his Post-Doctorate certification from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Nanjing, China in 2019. He received his Ph.D. and M.S degrees with specialization in Electrical Engineering (Control Science and Engineering) from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2016 and the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, Pakistan in 2012 respectively. He is a member of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and IEEEP (P). His areas of interest are Optimization Techniques, Multi-agent Networks, Analysis and Design of Linear/Nonlinear Systems, Design of Renewable Energy Systems, Maximum Power Point Trackers for PV systems, Economic Energy Dispatch, etc. He has advised several projects in these areas and has several publications in internationally leading journals and conferences.
